During the Northern Song Dynasty, there was a skilled archer. One day he drew a big crowd while he was practicing on the drill ground. He shot so accurately that the on-lookers cheered with excitement. He became very proud of his skill. But among the crowd an old oil peddler only nodded his head indifferently. This hurt his Pride.

“Can you do this?” he asked the old oil peddler. “No, I can’t.”

“What do you think of my skill?”

“Just OK, but nothing special. You’ve gained your accuracy from persistent practice. That’s all.”

“What can you do, then?” the old man said nothing. He put a gourd bottle on the ground and covered its mouth with a copper coin. He then scooped out a ladle of oil from his big jar, held it high and began to fill the bottle.

Now, a thread of oil came down from the ladle into the bottle just through the hole of the coin. Everybody looking on watched with amazement. But the old man said, “This is nothing special, I can do this because I have practiced it a lot.” And with these words, he left.

Later, people use this phrase to mean “Practice makes perfect”.

Good afternoon, everybody. I just want to say a few words about the landmark vote that the House of Representatives is poised to(随时准备着) take today -- a vote that can bring us one step closer to making real the promise of quality, affordable(支付得起) health care for the American people.

For the better part of a year now, members of the House and the Senate have been working diligently(勤奋地) and constructively to craft legislation that will benefit millions of American families and millions of American businesses who urgently need it. For the first time ever, they've passed bills through every single committee responsible for reform. They've brought us closer than we have ever been to passing health insurance reform on behalf of the American people.

Now is the time to finish the job. The bill that the House has produced will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance; quality, affordable options for those who don't; and lower costs for American families and American businesses. And as I've insisted from the beginning, it is a bill that is fully paid for and will actually reduce our long-term federal deficit(赤字，不足).

This bill is change that the American people urgently need. Don't just take my word for it. Consider the national groups who've come out in support of this bill on behalf of their members: The Consumers Union supports it because it will create -- and I quote -- "a more secure, affordable health care system for the American people."

The American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association support it on behalf of doctors and nurses and medical professionals who know firsthand what's broken in our current system, and who see what happens when their patients can't get the care they need because of insurance industry bureaucracies(官僚政治).

The National Farmers Union supports this bill because it will control costs for farmers and ranchers(牧场主), and address the unique challenges rural Americans face when it comes to receiving quality care.

And the AARP supports it because it will achieve the goal for which the AARP has been fighting for decades -- reducing the cost of health care, expanding coverage for America's seniors, and strengthening Medicare for the long haul.

Now, no bill can ever contain everything that everybody wants, or please every constituency(选区) and every district. That's an impossible task. But what is possible, what's in our grasp right now is the chance to prevent a future where every day 14,000 Americans continue to lose their health insurance, and every year 18,000 Americans die because they don't have it; a future where crushing costs keep small businesses from succeeding and big businesses from competing in the global economy; a future where countless dreams are deferred or scaled back because of a broken system we could have fixed when we had the chance.

What we can do right now is choose a better future and pass a bill that brings us to the very cusp(尖头，尖端) of building what so many generations of Americans have sought to build -- a better health care system for this country.

Millions of Americans are watching right now. Their families and their businesses are counting on us. After all, this is why they sent us here, to finally confront the challenges that Washington had been putting off for decades -- to make their lives better, to leave this country stronger than we found it.

I just came from the Hill where I talked to the members of Congress there, and I reminded them that opportunities like this come around maybe once in a generation. Most public servants pass through their entire careers without a chance to make as important a difference in the lives of their constituents and the life of this country. This is their moment, this is our moment, to live up to the trust that the American people have placed in us -- even when it's hard; especially when it's hard. This is our moment to deliver.

I urge members of Congress to rise to this moment. Answer the call of history, and vote yes for health insurance reform for America.

Thank you very much!非常感谢！在接下来的时间里，我将和大家一起分享一下学英语的苦辣酸甜。最主要的，是想通过我在北大六年教学经历、美国六年生活经历、“新东方”六年教学经历，来和大家交流一下怎能样尽快的提高大家的listeing and speaking comprehensions.

我的经历具体是这样的：我是1980年从内蒙古考到北大的，比大家高了好多届。我在北大学英文，然后又在北大教书。教书六年之后，在1990年，我求学到美国。我发现到了，美国一下飞机，我一句话也听不懂。当时我想，至少我学了几年英文，所以打算继续学英文。正在我在考虑到哪里去的时候，我听到一种说法，叫做everybody in American can speak English。那么我又怎么能够在美国赚钱呢？所以，我必须改变这个想法。于是我该学了学计算机。计算机硕士毕业以后，我在美国的贝尔实验室做了两年的软件工程师。在1995年，“新东方”的创始人俞敏洪来到了美国，在他的建议下，我有回国，开始参加“新东方”的创建。我和俞敏洪在北大是同班同学——“新东方”的五个“创业元老”里有三个是北大的同学。除了我们两个还有一个是“新东方”的图书总策划包凡一老师，他是“新东方”的写作专家。我在大学时代是他们的班长，他们两个当时是全班最落后的学生。我那时的主要精力和时间都花在每天晚上陪他们两个在湖畔散步，劝

他们不要跳下去。我告诉他们说：“你们将来一定会成才的。”到了96年，我在新东方担任副校长的时候，有一个大学生就问我说：“王老师，你上大学时四年都是他们的班长，你现在却是他们的副校长，你的心理平衡怎么找？”我说：“不用找，我现在心理是最平衡的。我当初当班长最大的夙愿就是帮助这两个后进青年成才。今天看到他们已经纷纷成才了，我的夙愿已经了了。平衡彻底找到了。”——我们的确都要找到一个平衡的方法，只有心态平衡下来，你才能够干成伟大的事业。

在美国的时候我学计算机之前，还有一段小插曲。那就是我险些报考了哈佛的人力学系。我离开北大之后，吸引我的学校只有两所，一所是英国的牛津大学，就是Oxford University；另一所呢就是Harvard University。那时候，哈佛大学人力学系的系主任，对我进行了面试之后觉得可以录取我，并且提出可以给我提供五年的Scholarship。他说：“你只要答应我一个条件，”我说：“什么条件？”——这个教授研究的是非常偏的一个科目，所以招生好多年都没有找到一个合适的学生。他是在人力学系研究中国文化中苗族文化的。——他说：“只要你跟我学苗语，我就给你奖学金。”我说：“可以。”但是，我冷静下来之后想：我拿了这些钱，在五年之内，过的是天上人间的日子。就算不能从哈佛大学毕业，也能够肄业。将来至少能够跟孙子夸口说，爷爷当年进过哈佛。但是这还不行，因为我拿到这个学位，最终的目的是要找个饭碗。我就考虑，在北美这样大片的土地上，有多少地方需要我这样的人才呢？——苗族文化专家。通过“研究”，我发现，全北美只有一个地方需要，就是哈佛大学、人力学系、这位老师。所以，如果全北美只有一个机会，他的目标里只有我一个人，那么这个机会对我来说是百分之百的！但是，五年之后，我仍然处于一个非常劣势的地位。我如果能在哈佛大学拿到学位，接下来的梦想就是当上哈佛大学的教授、终身教授。美国大学关于终身教授的规定：只要这个教授不去世，你就别想替代他。我想，万一我六十岁就“夭折“了，那位教授八十多岁还健在，我也还是助教。想到这儿，我就对那位教授说：“I want to learn something different。”

当时是1990年，计算机在美国变得popular。而且招生的指标还有70个，我觉得这是个attract opportunity，于是决定学计算机。如果学计算机，我就可以成为一个“计算机科学家”，就可以make money。但当时，我已经十年没摸过数学了，计算机也从来没有接触过。我想，我能不能学计算机呢？我用亚里士多德的“三段论”来推导这个问题：计算机是人发明的东西，凡是人都应该懂人发明的东西。最后，如果我学不了计算机，我就不是人。得出这个结论之后，我就要做一些实际的调查，看一看计算机到底是什么。我到了纽约最大的书店，看看计算机架上到底有些什么书。其中有两架书，

上面都有两个共同的词，这两个词深深地吸引了我，那就是programming languages。我看见的.其实只有一个词：languages。这个词说明我与计算机是有关系的——我想，汉语是一种language，英文是我的first foreign language，法语是我的二外语，德语是第三外语。这个“编程语言”与我所会的这四门语言一定有共同的地方，所以才能一样叫语言。于是，我就挑了一本书，看自己能不能读懂，结果发现没有一页读懂的。但是我发现了编程中很重要的一样东西，是逻辑流程。我就靠这两点——语言和逻辑，和纽约州立大学计算机系的系主任约会，说：“我是一个非常优秀的人才，你必须录取我。”他看了我的成绩单以后，说：“可是，你在北大学习的四年中，没有一门课程与教学和计算机有关。”我说：“请等一下，我给你陈述一下你为什么必须要我——哈佛大学正在在考虑录取我呢！另外，我有三点非常强的优势。第一，计算机与其他机器相比最重要的特点是它能安装软件，那么什么是软件呢？”他说：“programs 。”我又问：“那么我们用什么来写这个programs呢？”他说：“language。”我说：“那你再看看我的成线单，最重要的一个词是什么？”老师说：“language。”我说：“我已经掌握了四门语言，再学一门方言是易如反掌。”教授说：“有道理。”然后我又说：“计算机能够工作，它离不开人预设的逻辑。我在北大做了六年老师，做老师最大的特点就是训练一个人的逻辑思维结构。我已经

Deforestation removes old growth trees that cant be replaced. Too much fishing may harm fish populations to the point where they cant recover. We are too careless in taking what we want without giving anything back.

There are more people than ever, living longer that ever. So is it any surprise that many areas suffer from too much development? Anyone living in or near a city has experienced urban sprawl. There is a new shopping area on every corner and new houses, townhouses and apartments everywhere. Traffic gets worse and worse because planners cant keep up with growth. Keeping up with human demand is hard enough. Environmental concerns come in last.

With growth comes pollution. Companies and communities dump waste into water. Landfills are full of trash. Emissions from factories pollute the air. Barrels of industrial waste and worse, radioactive waste, have no safe place to go. If were not careful, we can harm our planet beyond repair.

但是，我奶奶却是很执拗，她说，他是八路军，他还是共产党，我信他。于是，没有任何的彩礼，也没有什么嫁妆，我奶奶就卷了一床新的铺盖卷儿，坐着驴车嫁进了我爷爷家。我猜想，他们新婚的日子一定过得非常的甜蜜，但是战争又是非常残酷的。一纸调令，把我爷爷所在的部队调往了东北前线，我爷爷根本来不及和我奶奶告上一声别，就已经赶赴了辽沈战役的战场。丈夫突然间不见了，去哪儿了不知道，我奶奶当时都急疯了。后来知道爷爷去战场了，但是是死是活完全没有消息。有人说，我爷爷已经在战场上牺牲了，还有人甚至劝我奶奶改嫁。我都很难想象，我当年不到20岁的奶奶，是怎么熬过了那一个又一个充满着焦虑、担忧又期待的日日夜夜。奶奶说，她当时心里一直坚信一句话，就是爷爷跟她说过“一定会活着回来”，这句话成为了奶奶心中最大的一种信念和支撑。

经历了辽沈战役和平津战役，终于迎来了全中国的解放，胜利的消息传回了村子，我奶奶高兴坏了。她得知爷爷的部队正在沈阳休整，她实在无法抑制对于爷爷的思念，她找到了村子里面的几个军属，要一起去沈阳找丈夫。我奶奶从小在河北农村的老家长大，20岁之前，都没有离开过那个村子，她根本都不知道沈阳在哪儿。但是凭着一定要找到丈夫的信念，奶奶和那些村妇们就一路打听，一路询问，有火车的地方她们就扒火车，没有火车的地方就全凭两只脚在走。我奶奶年轻的时候裹过小脚，一走路就疼，但是奶奶把一双脚都走烂了，也没有阻挡她要寻找丈夫的脚步。整整七天七夜的时间，奶奶居然真的找到了沈阳，但是爷爷在哪儿啊?奶奶根本不知道爷爷所在部队的番号，她们又是一路的打听，一路的问呐，终于找到了一个类似于部队家属招待所的组织。组织的工作人员告诉奶奶说，你们的丈夫都还活着，但是他们已经被派往了抗美援朝战争的战场。奶奶听到之后嚎啕大哭。我相信每一个人都能想象得出来奶奶那个时候的失望，乃至是绝望，那可能是奶奶一生心中永远的痛。

我爷爷是一名铁道兵，他们在朝鲜战场的任务就是要铺设我军运送物资和弹药的铁路，当时铁路铺到哪儿，美军的轰炸机就炸到哪儿，我爷爷所在连队一个排的战士在一次美军的轰炸当中全部牺牲了，几十个年轻的生命，永远被埋葬在了朝鲜的战场上。我后来问爷爷，我说子弹就在身边，你想过你会死吗?爷爷说，他坚信，战争一定会胜利，而且他答应过我奶奶，一定要活着回来，男人就得说到做到。就是凭着他对于国家和信仰的忠诚，凭着他对于奶奶说到做到的承诺，爷爷和他的战友们，终于迎来了胜利。

从1948年年初，爷爷突然间离开家，到1953年朝鲜战争的胜利，我的爷爷和奶奶已经分开了整整六年的时间，六年的时间呀，已经把我的奶奶从一个少女打磨了成了一个少妇，也让我的爷爷从一个青年成长为了一名军官，他们终于见面了。我猜想这个世间没有一个词汇能够形容他们时隔六年再见时候的情形，激动、欣喜、拥抱、泪水，都不足以形容，甚至他们自己都形容不出来那一刻的心情。但我知道的是，他们这一次见面就一生都没有分开。

新中国成立了，我的爷爷和战友们投入到了新中国如火如荼的建设当中去，鹰厦铁路，贵昆铁路，葛洲坝水利工程，引滦入京工程都留下了爷爷和战友们的足迹。而我的奶奶作为随军的家属，爷爷们的工程干到哪儿，奶奶就会带着孩子们跟到哪儿。我奶奶是一个持家的好手，她每搬到一个地方，都会攒下很多的家底儿，但是只要部队一走，好多家当都没法带，不少的家属啊，因为舍不得东西，难过得流泪。但是我奶奶总是劝她们说，哭啥，家里只要有男人在，就有一切。我奶奶对我爷爷，那真的是一场说走就走的爱情，你在哪儿，哪里就是我的家。

今年，爷爷和奶奶已经结婚整整70年了，他们的婚龄和反法西斯战争胜利同龄，这也就意味着，他们人生的命运其实和我们这个国家的命运是紧密相连的，在我的记忆当中，好像爷爷和奶奶从来没有说过我爱你，但是我想，这70年的岁月，又怎是我爱你三个字所能承载的。

首先我们肯定得问，到底什么是爱情？有的人说爱情是一个围城。在围城外面的人幻想着它有多美好，一心想进去。里面人的却迫切地想出来！还有的人说，爱情是人与人之间的强烈的依恋、亲近、向往，以及无私专一并且无所不尽其心的情感。而科学家说，爱情是一种生理反应，有化学物质作用。当你与异性相处时，你的大脑会分析你们的dna，按一定原则，确定你对ta的好感。据说原则是你们基因的相似度越小越好，但，如果两人相处久了，这种好感就会被你的大脑选择性忽略。认识久了，就没爱情了吗？也不是，如果你对某人很好，而ta很快乐。此时身体会分泌内啡肽。这种物质能产生快乐，抑制痛苦。随着交往的继续，体内会分泌多巴胺和血清胺。多巴胺会提高人的兴奋水平，产生愉悦感。它是去甲肾上腺素的前提，说白了它多，肾上腺素就多，你就越兴奋。所以段誉见了王语嫣就忘乎所以，胡言乱语。血清胺是一种中间物质，它最终也会使人体兴奋，愉悦。但它更持久，因为有一系列的生化反应后才会起作用。它们加上内啡肽所产生的一系列感觉就是爱情。

我相信大部分的人都更倾向于第二种说，因为人们都更喜欢喜欢美好的事物。并且都更愿相信美好。哪怕那只是一个美丽的梦，人们也不愿醒来。其实我并不懂爱情。我也不能武断的说到底那一种能称之为爱情。我只会凭最简单的方法去辨别爱情，那就是感觉。

一千多年前，苏格拉底的徒弟问苏格拉底：“什么是恋爱？”苏格拉底带他来到一片麦田说：“你在这片麦田里走一遍，其间不许往回走，并在其中摘下最大的一个麦穗。”那个徒弟做完后，一个麦穗也没摘来，苏格拉底告诉他这就是恋爱。恋爱对象无所谓最好的，只有最适合的。不要总去追逐所谓的最好而错过了最适合你的那一个。

还有，爱情它理应需要距离。俗话说得好，距离产生美。在非洲有一种豪猪，身上的毛硬而尖。天气寒冷的时候，它们就聚在一起互相靠身体取暖。但是当它们靠近时，身上的毛尖会刺痛对方使它们立刻分开，分开后因为寒冷它们又聚在一起，聚在一起因为痛又分开，这样反复数次，最后它们终于找到了彼此间的最佳距离——在最轻的疼痛下得到最大的温暖。其实，爱情也像豪猪一样，豪猪的距离其实也就是爱情的距离。

恋爱在不同的阶段会有不同的感受和想法。现在我就围绕我们大学生来谈谈恋爱这个话题。记得初中时舅舅就和我说大学是恋爱的天堂，但我现在觉得这个想法是多么的肤浅，因为如今我的初恋还没有送出去呀。但我的初吻早已结束在某个夏天，当夜幕降临时，也不知道是我爸还是我妈下的手。

曾看过许多同学的个性签名，最直接的一个男同学是丈母娘，该发货啦！第二个，我很想知道，当我的名字滑过你的耳朵，你脑海里会闪现些什么，这句话我曾经问过一个男的，他说类似于感冒发烧，这个比喻我只能透露他是学医的，但我觉得单身姑娘不是罪。单身姑娘心不累，我甚至觉得没有男人的日子不孤单，没有闺蜜的日子才可怕。女生失眠有三种可能，第一暗恋一个男生，心里想的便是世界上最遥远的距离，不是生与死，而是我站在你面前，你却不知我爱你。第二谈了，太幸福想太多睡不着，第三就是吃太多了。

大学环境有它的独特性：对大学生来说，它在青年走入社会的过程中提供了一个缓冲环境。青年能更从容地完成社会化，更完善地发展自我概念，而不至于感受到从青春中期直接下来落入社会的强大反差和心理不适。大学生的恋爱并不是件坏事，它对青年的成熟很有帮助。不管是心理还是生理的需求，都渴求理想中的另一半的出现。

在当代的大学校园里，可以说“谈恋爱”已被视为一道风景线，男女同学手拉手的背影在校园里随处可见，甚至有的学生认为“大学里没谈过恋爱，十分可惜”，“谈一场轰轰烈烈的恋爱”是“大学的一门必修课”有些同学还调侃道不谈恋爱是一种不误正业的一种表现。我也有点觉得，之前我一直在看非常完美，很喜欢里面的一首歌，我只想做你的公主，拥有那平凡的幸福。

大学，这么一个风花雪月的地方，这个时候女生虽然免不了还有一些孩子气，但心理上成熟度是远大于男生的了，可以说女生的青春是无价之宝，但这时候男生既没有多大的智慧，也没有财富和地位，更没有事业，如果有一个真心实意陪在他身边的女生，他应该好好珍惜，因为这个女孩会鼓励他不断地成长，共同奋斗的日子是多么美好的，在这个男生一无所有的年纪，女生用她最美好的最美的一段年纪陪他度过，所以男生应该要懂得更加爱护，平时被心爱的女生欺负，遭骂，做各种活都是应该的。

恋爱的意义虽有积极的一面，有时也会危害青年的心理健康。怎样才算爱上了呢，为什么我的眼里常含泪水，()因为我爱你爱的深层。但人无完人，都会有缺点，恋爱的进一步发展还会带来社会问题，比如说一时冲动，多了一条生命，这对女生造成心理负担是超重。

前几天看了电影《山楂树之恋》，张艺谋导演的，据说张导本想把此片拍成一片最纯洁最纯真的爱情片，可看过这影片的人都知道，哎呀妈呀，里头的老三整一个泡妞高手，带静秋去河边游泳好方便脱衣，带静秋去医院，还开免费房间。你们说他高不高手?高手啊……令吾等自叹不如啊。

This type of negative thought that can apply to many categories. Maybe you dont think youre a good enough mother or good at a sport. Even if you find yourself lacking in something, theres no need to keep repeating it to yourself. The human brain is an incredible thing. Be inspired by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, Harvard-trained neuroscientist who suffered a stroke that left her unable to walk, read, write, talk, or remember her previous life. Dr. Taylor took eight years to recover and has since then written a best-selling book about her experience and appeared on Oprah. Keep on working toward something, and watch the leaps and bounds youll make.

And people may be reacting to the energy youre putting out; perhaps you think they dont care about you so you dont make any effort in your relationships. Start showing people you care, so they can show you back in kind. And if you dont have good relationships with the people you know, whats stopping you from making new friends?

Either you move on and stop thinking and talking about her, or learn to approach her or think about her in a positive manner. Focus on her good qualities, and repeat them to yourself instead of honing in on the unpleasant things.

Be appreciative of what you have, because if you want to play the comparison game, remember that there are people who are also worse off than you are.

Everything is within your reach as long as you work hard and have a a positive attitude.
