ladies and gentlemen , good afternoon! i’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is “youth”.

i hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.

youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .

the greatest invention in my eyes is the telephone, which is essential today in every house. and i believe that each person here own a lovely cell phone, including myself. what dose this phenomena mean?

needless to say, with only over 100-year’s development, telephone has already assumed a role as a family member. (“ played an important part in our daily life ”. ) amazing invention, isn’t it?

and now, let us have a view at the evolution: thousands of years ago, it was not possible or at least very hard for people far away from home having contact with their hometown, which means they could do nothing but to lose contact with their family; then, hundreds of years ago, people away from home could keep in touch with their family only by letters, which they needed to wait for weeks, months for a response; and now, attention, within seconds you can have a pleasant talk with a somebody thousands and thousands away! wonder, isn’t it?

now, please draw a picture in your mind: you only need to pick up your cell phone, to press the amazing numbers, to wait for several seconds and after she/he get the telephone, to make your voice fly through the air-sea in the form of radio, then a contact is being made as i am ****** the speech for you.

while, what i appreciate most is not the convenience the telephone offered, but the bridges it made which create contacts between you and your beloved parents, and your hometown thousands away. these bridges work as follows: when you are unhappy, bridge will be made to easy your broken heart by your lovely parents; when you are success, it will be made to share your enjoyment with your friends; when you are helpless, phone call will be made to strengthen your determination, also to give you encouragements.

good morning, respectable judges, teachers. today, standing here makes me feel really honored and excited. the title of my speech is classifying rubbish , improving environment.

personally, rubbish has been a big headache in beijing. as

the year 2008 is ***ing ,every citizen has realized green beijing and green olympics will bring the far-reaching impact on beijing and even all china . the scense of rubbish nearly everywhere has given all of us a really bad impression, and i'm sure none of us wish to show off the bad side of beijing to athletes and journalists all over the world, for it would blemish the city's and even china's image and leave a bad reputation. so we really have to work hard on green olympics.

we told our idea to our teacher and he supported us very much . we became volunteers to classify rubbish . firstly we got three big boxes and put them in a corner of our classroom .

one is for waste ***** , one for plastics and coke cans and the other is for batteries . with teacher's help ,soon all the students took part in the activity of classifying rubbish .in a month , we collected three boxes of ***** , a box of batteries and a box of plastics and coke cans .

we sold them for 28 yuan and bought some young trees with the money . we planted the trees around our school . we were all spoken highly of by our school principals.

应该说，垃圾问题一直是我们的大问题。随着2008年的临近，每一个市民都深切地意识到"绿色北京，绿色奥运"对北京乃至中国将有着多么深远的影响！几乎到处都是垃圾的景象给我们留下了深刻的印象。

actually, a lot of thing around us are changing with the time. especially for us who work in the it industry. ten years ago, young people were proud to say ‘i have a walkman.

’ today, when we are obsessed with apple's products those people who still listen to walkman is expected to be named out man. ten years ago, we were patient to download popular songs with the speed of a few kb, but now, we are enjoying watching high definition movies with the speed of megabyte, if the bandwidth downs to a few kb now, the operators’ telephones must have rung off the hook.

so are the development of yzit in these ten years. many years ago, my colleagues were still on ***** office, but now，with the using of automated office system, the production efficiency is greatly improved. few years ago, we need go a long way to attend a meeting, but today with the using of online video systems we can arrange a good job without a business travel.

someone may ask “what kind of life will be in the furture.” you know the good seaman is known in bad weather. cease to struggle and you cease to live.

各位老师、同学们大家上午好！我叫王培。我在加拿大学习了九年。去年年底我回到了中国。今年5月，我接任重庆东方菜根总经理。在加拿大留学期间，我经历了很多，感触很深，尤其是用英语与有尊严的人交流。加拿大是一个讲英语的国家。

我不是专业讲师，没有在座的老师讲的好，今天就班门弄斧一回了！要是觉得我人不够帅不够亲切，说的话不够动听、没有道理大家尽可以简单地听听。

我今天演讲的题目就是“用英语打开与世界对话之门 ”。我是十七岁高中毕业后就去加拿大上大学了的，独自一人远离家乡父母来到一个陌生的国家，在加国有这样一件事情我至今还记忆深刻。。。。。。。。一个与语言障碍和歧视有关的问题。。。。

可见，掌握扎实的英语语言基本功和一口流利的英语口语是十分重要的，特别是对于在21世纪中叶掌握中国发展主动权的在座各位小同志们了！一位同学在下面说，我不出国，不留学，一辈子不能用几句英语！这就错了。

虽然不出国不留学，但英文还是铺天盖地蜂拥而来，环绕在每一个人身边，甚至随着世界经济的一体化发展，这种趋势也还在增强。英语会影响你未来的工作甚至生活。所以我建议在座的每个人都能认真听我下面所说的话，并有针对性地听。

i hate feeling unsure of myself. i wish i could stop obsessing about what others think of me and quit worrying about disappointing other people. i want to stop anguishing over my decisions and torturing myself about my mistakes.

i think it would be so great to feel self-assured, hold my head up high and stand tall. i've never been self-confident. i wish there were a way i could be.

”there is a way. you don't have to be born with self-confidence. self-confidence can grow and flourish and ripen and blossom until you actually ***e to feel as though there is a different person inside of you.

here are some insights that might facilitate the quest.

learn what a self-confident person is really like. they are not cocky, know-it-all people who don't care what anybody else thinks. they have their doubts.

and make mistakes. and are far from perfect. however, they are willing to acknowledge their inadequacies without dwelling on them.

they do this by maintaining a sense of humor, putting problems in perspective, and focusing mainly on what they've done right, not wrong.

though self-confident people do believe in themselves, they don't try to suffocate others with their ideas or beliefs. they are confident in what they know not only because they read, learn and think but also because they respect their instinct, intuition and the unique body of knowledge that they've developed by living life. they realize that one doesn't have to be labeled an “expert” to believe in one's own truths.

self-confident people don't undermine their own worth by ***paring themselves with others, only to conclude that they aren't “good enough”. they appreciate their strengths and ac***plishments and can acknowledge, without embarras**ent, their weaknesses. they don't live in the “victim” position.

even if something really bad has occurred, they turn it into a challenge, remembering to be grateful for the little things in life.

self-confident people let the world know who they are. if they want something badly enough, they know they have every right to “go for it.” yet, they also know that the path will rarely be easy.

mistakes, blunders and failures are part of the learning process. they seek to learn from their mistakes and do not waste time torturing themselves over what “could have been”.

self-confident people are not obstinate people. if they have an idea about something and it differs from the way another person is thinking about it, they will usually try to look at it from that person's point of view, see why it makes sense to them. yet, a confident person's sense of self is grounded.

it does not blow in the

wind. their ideas do not fluctuate based on what others deem are important.

英语是拼读语言，大部分单词符合拼读规则。根据字母组合、读音规则进行记忆，会读一个单词，便会拼写出来。因而，只要读音读准了，大部分单词是比较容易根据读音拼写出来。在学习新单词时，先单词的读音读准，然后根据拼读规则记单词。记单词时重点记忆元音字母和含有元音字母的字母组合。因为辅音字母的读音比较简单，基本上同字母的音标相一致，而元音字母比较复杂，在开音节、闭音节中有不同的发音，不同的字母和字母组合有相同的发音，而相同的字母又有不同的发音。因而记单词时，先把单词读准，然后再仔细看是哪个元音或字母组合发这个音，记住元音或字母组合，单词就基本记住了。

2. 分类记忆：

记忆单词时，我们可以把单词归结成一定的系列进行记忆。如家庭系列，有 grandfather， grandmother， father， mother，brother， sister， son， aunt， uncle等。我们可以按文具、食品、动物、称谓、颜色、职业、交通、时间等，进行分类记忆。

3. 整体记忆：

在学汉字时，我们并不是每一个汉字都是一笔一划地去记忆，而多数是根据部首组合来整体记忆。在记英语单词时，我们也可以借鉴记汉字的方法，把把几个字母看作一个整体来记，同其它一些字母或字母组合组成新单词，这样，就大大减轻了记忆难度，如：“ow”再加上不同的字母，可组成how，cow， low， now， town， down， know等;“ight”，再在前面加上不同的字母，可组成eight， light， right， fight， night，

sight等。我们把这样的字母组合作为一个整体记熟了，遇到含有这样的字母组合的单词，记起来就简单多了。

4. 联想记忆：

英语的一部分单词和汉语一样，起源于像形，每个字母都有其代表的含义。如：orange，突出了橘子的圆形(o)，lion突出了狮子的长长的尾巴(l)，“tree”把tr看成树干和树枝，把ee看成树叶。“eye”把两个e看成两个眼，中间的y是鼻子。“banana”把a看成一个个的香蕉。“bird”把b和d看成两个翅膀等等。让学生记住字母的像形，就可以解决不认识单词的问题。

The main purpose of history is to create a better world. History gives a warning to those who promote war, and inspiration to those who seek peace.

In short, history helps us learn. Yesterday’s records can keep us from repeating yesterday’s mistakes. And from the pieces of mosaic4 assembled5 by historians come the great murals6 which represent the progress of mankind.

But what can we do to solve the pollution？I think, firstly, we can make cars that don’t pollute the environment. We can ask companies to use modern clean technology. In some big cities, we can limit the number of cars. Secondly, we can try to use less water and make sure that we do not pollute the water. We can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers. Thirdly, we should not throw rubbish in parks and cities. We can pick up rubbish if we see it. We can put more rubbish bins in our parks and cities. Fourthly, we can live far from the noise and make the laws to limit the noise.

The air, water and the whole atmosphere directly influenced our lives, such as the air, people may cough and it will lead to cancer. So we must try our best to keep the world clean and tidy. To reach it, I want to put forward three points to everybody---Point 1：don’t spit and liter；Point 2：don’t draw on the wall；Point 3：clean the streets every day.

People in rich countries make the heaviest demands on the worlds resources， its food， fuel and land， and cause the most pollution. A baby born in the United States will use in his lifetime 30 times more of the worlds resources than a baby born in India. Unless all the countries of the world take united action to deal with the population explosion there will be more and more people fighting for a share of less and less land， food and fuel， and the future will bring poverty， misery and war to us all.

For most of the developing countries， it is a good idea to control the population growth. For example， China has carried out birth control for years. And this plan has a great effect on the world population.

If the population continues to increase， if the air and water continue to be polluted， if we dont do something to protect wild-plant and wildlife species will be declining. Species and biological communities have difficulty adapting to change. Economic opportunities and the quality of life of future generations are also put at risk. In the future, more electric door guards will take the place of door ladies.

The electric door guard operates under an IC card system, with students using IC cards to enter. Each resident student is issued an IC card with his/her personal information stored on it. Information like the card-holding students name, major, grade, and even time of entry will be stored on their IC card. The door has also been equipped with a digital eye to take video 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

With the new door guard already on duty, students began to discuss the pros and cons of the latest renovation to their dorm in community forums.

Some complained that having to take their IC card everywhere is inconvenient, adding that the system is not always reliable. They noted times when the system failed to recognize them and they had to call repair workers to fix it.

Others say the former door lady was more flexible and gave them a sense of home. Sometimes when a student had to stay out late, to study or for other business, the door lady would wait for them and let them in if they told her beforehand. Or when students parents came to visit, the door lady would let them in. But now, all of these conveniences seem impossible.

Still, students admit that the electric door guard is much safer, as it prevents thieves as well as unwelcome salesmen from entering their dorm. In this way, the electric door guard has its own advantages.

The schools authorities say the new system needs some time to improve and that students need time to get used to it. The school has said it will consider the inconveniences brought along with the new door guard and attempt to solve them by other means. On the whole, the new system seems to be good for students living in the dorm building.
